For our Autumn 2026 issue, Theology in Scotland journal invites contributions (articles, academic interviews, theological reflections, creative compositions such as poetry and creative writing) that explore themes of migration, displacement, and belonging.

Global migration and forced displacement are among the most pressing challenges of our time. Millions of people are uprooted due to politics, conflict, persecution, climate change, and economic instability. Migration has historically shaped Scottish society and culture, yet the recent surge in far‑right anti‑immigration protests has intensified hostility and deepened divisions in public debate. This issue welcomes contributions that examine theological engagement with migration, displacement, and belonging (both in historical and contemporary contexts) and reflect on how faith communities can embody hospitality, justice, and solidarity with migrants and displaced people.

Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • Biblical and theological foundations for hospitality, sanctuary, and justice in contexts of displacement
  • Historical perspectives on the Church’s engagement with migration and refugee crises
  • Liturgical and/or pastoral practices that foster intercultural belonging and inclusion
  • Ethical and political theology in relation to asylum policies, human rights, and global solidarity
  • Interfaith and ecumenical approaches to refugee support and intercultural dialogue
  • Case studies of local churches, faith-based organisations, or grassroots movements in Scotland that are responding to migration
  • Theological reflections on identity, belonging, and community in intercultural contexts
  • Voices and lived experiences of migrants and refugees as sources of theological insight

This call is open to academics, practitioners, students, clergy, counsellors, theologians, those who work in migration support/services, and all others whose work or experience engages with any part of this important topic.
