The Spirituality of Solidarity
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper begins by defining terms. Spirituality is viewed as an essential part of human identity; the term has also come to refer to how that aspect of ourselves is developed. Solidarity is viewed as an expression of the relational character of the Christian life; standing alongside those we are in community with, especially the marginalised and oppressed – this should involve costly self-denying love. The author illustrates the connection between spirituality and solidarity through his own experience, including as part of the Iona Community and the Open Door community in Atlanta, Georgia.
