The Year of the Visual Arts 96: local initiatives, national and global trends

Abstract

This paper looks at the process that led to the organisation of VAUK 96, examining the relation between the aims of the organisers, in particular, of Northern Arts who developed the project, including both its clients and the providers of public funding: the state through the Arts Council.
