Representing memory in exile: Vieira da Silva's city landscapes 1939-1946

Abstract

This paper will discuss four major cityscape paintings by the Portuguese-born artist Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908-1992), with regards to the representation of memory through specific strategies for depicting space.
